Mission Focused, Community Centered, Principle Led
The Principality of NorAuthwik, located within (and surrounded by) Catawba County, North Carolina, is a MicroNational entity that operates publicly through the legal structure of The Crown of NorAuthwik LLC.
Founded in 2012, NorAuthwik is a principle-led, mission-driven principality—an expression of creative governance grounded in values, not conquest. The use of the term Principality is symbolic, drawn from the word Principles itself.
Our foundation rests on clearly defined Core Principles that guide both our internal identity and our public-facing outreach.
What Makes NorAuthwik Unique
NorAuthwik is not a breakaway state, a secessionist movement, nor a utopian experiment—it is a crafted cultural presence. We blend tradition, art, service, and identity into something new: a MicroNation that functions as both a symbolic Principality and an active creative mission.
We support:
Artistic expression across all mediums—from watercolor to writing, storytelling to digital design
Freedom of thought and speech, grounded in dignity and mutual respect
Volunteerism and public service, recognizing the value of purpose-driven action
Individual identity, with no pressure to conform, only encouragement to contribute
Modern cultural heritage, combining Americana with a distinct NorWakian vision
NorAuthwik
(Nor - Awth - wik):
Nor - Symbolizes new beginnings and a sense of direction, derived from the idea of the "Northern Star" as a guiding compass. This represents a commitment to navigating forward with purpose, sense of direction, and innovation.
Auth - Stands for authority and authenticity, signifying the principality's dedication to empowering its citizens with a genuine voice and shared governance rooted in integrity, championing freedom of expression and speech.
Wik - Borrowed from Old English, meaning "village" or "community," it highlights the unity and collaboration that form the heart of NorAuthwik's mission.
NorWakian (Nor-way-kee-an): Having to do with the culture, people, or government of the Principality of NorAuthwik.
Our Model of Operation
NorAuthwik balances symbolic autonomy with practical collaboration. While we reference the idea of sovereignty in a cultural sense, we remain in full compliance with local and federal law. Our principality is an example of what we call a Protectorate Principality—operating within the United States, yet maintaining a meaningful identity of its own.
This model allows us to explore governance, expression, and diplomacy in a modern, respectful context—without making legal claims of statehood or citizenship that conflict with established law.
A Culture Cultivated by Purpose
NorAuthwik is built through expression, intention, and imagination. We do not try to escape the world. We engage with it on our own terms, through creativity, outreach, and the arts.
Whether painting in a sunlit room, contributing to policy discussions, or sharing poetry with the world, citizens of NorAuthwik are invited to help shape something rare:
A principality of vision.
A network of meaning.
A culture of possibility.
A frequently asked question, or rather follow up question, after being introduced to our nation is "a Principality?" This video explains why NorAuthwik is a Principality -- and goes into depth about our founding principles, the core of our culture.
A Principality of Principles, Culture, and Care
Although somewhat unconventional in form, NorAuthwik embraces the identity of a MicroNation to offer a distinct, values-driven response to the modern world. We do not claim sovereignty in opposition, but rather adopt our identity to create a space for expression, creativity, and cultural participation—especially for those who have felt unseen or unheard in the systems they were born into.
Our Founding
The Principality of NorAuthwik was founded on May 26, 2012 by four individuals who shared a vision for a more united, imaginative, and reflective world. They believed that where we are born should not limit who we become—and that identity, belonging, and purpose can be shaped by choice, not by chance.
What began as an art project gradually matured into a principality of culture and outreach. In time, NorAuthwik adopted a MicroNational framework, began participating in diplomatic exchanges with other MicroNations, and launched community initiatives that reflected its core values.
We chose the word “Principality” not to evoke royalty or dominion, but because we are a nation founded upon Principles.
A Culture That’s Cultivated, Not Assigned
NorAuthwik celebrates what we call a cultivated culture—a society formed piece by piece, person by person, through self-determined expression. In NorAuthwik, culture is not imposed from above; it grows through the contributions of those who participate in it.
Anyone who contributes through art, ideas, community engagement, public service, or civic participation is helping shape NorAuthwik’s identity—and is welcomed as part of its evolving story.
HeadQuarters and Operations:
NorAuthwik exists symbolically within the borders of Catawba County, North Carolina, particularly in harmony with the surrounding City of Hickory—a region known for its craftsmanship, educational heritage, and community resilience. It is officially headquartered at Cardinal Hall, the residence of the Sovereign.
We operate in cooperation with the laws of the United States and the City of Hickory, incorporating their values into our MicroNational framework. Our own Code of Law draws from both the U.S. Constitution and the spirit of our local region.
Shared Values and Local Alignment
To function meaningfully and respectfully, NorAuthwik recognizes the importance of aligning with the local priorities of Hickory and Catawba County. We consistently update our programs and initiatives in response to local needs, acting as a cultural complement rather than a competing presence.
We proudly uphold the enduring values of cooperation, self-determination, and order—both in recognition of our U.S. roots and in service to a broader, global conversation about identity, creativity, and participation.
Crown Community Care Initiative
In 2024, NorAuthwik launched the Crown Community Care Initiative, a public mission dedicated to applying our principles through action. This initiative reflects our ongoing commitment to:
Liberation through self-expression and the arts
Unity through community engagement and volunteerism
Inclusion through cultural identity that welcomes contribution over conformity
Through this and other projects, NorAuthwik continues to build its role as a mission-focused principality—one that leads not with force, but with intention.
GOVERNMENT OF NORAUTHWIK
COAT OF ARMS
This coat of arms embodies the collective legacy of NorAuthwik’s founding leaders.
The shield is divided into four distinct quadrants—each representing one of the Principality’s original founders. At the center, a radiant golden halo binds the design together, symbolizing the unifying force of our shared principles.
This central halo represents not just unity, but the enduring commitment to the virtues that gave NorAuthwik its foundation: creativity, compassion, community, and self-determination. Together, these values continue to guide the governance of our nation.
FLAG OF NORAUTHWIK
Established as the Standard for NorAuthwik, 2017
The Flag of NorAuthwik is a proud emblem of our principality’s founding vision, values, and governance. Each element of the design reflects the spirit of our nation:
Four Quadrants: Representing the Four Founding Principles and the Four Original Founders who laid the foundation of NorAuthwik’s cultural and civic identity.
Golden Crown: Symbolizes the Principality’s unique form of governance—led not by conquest, but by principle. It serves as a reminder that our crown is earned through integrity, creativity, and service.
Dark Blue: Signifies Trust, Authority, and Reliability—core traits of NorAuthwik’s leadership and community.
White: Represents Pure Intention and High Ideals—guiding lights that inform our national ethos and citizen conduct.
🌿 NORWAKIAN CULTURE
Creativity flourishes in the Principality of NorAuthwik. NorWakians are encouraged to express themselves freely through music, modern art, literature, comedy, dance, and beyond. Artistic expression is not merely welcome—it is foundational to our identity.
Above all, NorAuthwik is a nation rooted in the respect of individual rights. Each citizen is empowered to share their voice, shape their environment, and contribute meaningfully to the evolving fabric of our society.
We celebrate diversity and inclusivity, recognizing that our differences enrich our collective experience and strengthen our shared unity. Collaboration and community are the heartbeat of NorAuthwik. We offer a principled shelter to those in search of identity—a welcoming space for individuals who long to belong, to create, and to be valued for who they are.
NATIONAL ANIMAL: THE WINGED LION
The national animal of NorAuthwik is the Winged Lion, a majestic creature that features prominently in many of our coats of arms.
Though mythological, the Winged Lion carries profound symbolic weight. Like the ancient griffin, it is revered as a guardian of virtue—a protector of what is just, noble, and true. In NorAuthwik, we embrace that spirit.
As guardians of our principles, we honor the Winged Lion as an emblem of courage, wisdom, and duty. You’ll often see its likeness across the seals of our ministries, councils, and sovereign offices, serving as a reminder of our commitment to the ideals that define us.
